I promise I won't “preach” often on this blog but thought it was appropriate on this week of all weeks. Do you realize how prominent trees are in the Bible? In the middle of the Garden of Eden there were two trees, the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. These two trees were central to the creation story and how human beings would “handle” these trees would send us in a continual pursuit of the tree that provides LIFE. God's chosen people would often be compared to a tree needing shaped and pruned and a righteous man is compared to a tree planted by streams of water in the very first Psalm. But this week we remember one more tree in the Bible. I Peter 2:24 says, [Jesus]himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. The tree of life has come full circle. The tree of life that we were forbidden from partaking of, has now been offered to all. It's a good week to hug a tree and appreciate the God who created it and the hope that it offers to each and everyone of us through Jesus.
